LA Trek

Curtis W. Lanclos

On a recent business trip to Burbank, CA, I had the opportunity to spend some time on Hollywood Blvd scouting out all of the various memorials dedicated to the original Star Trek series. I was pleased to discover that most of the major cast members in fact have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Additionally, in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre (where there are nearly 200 Hollywood celebrity handprints, footprints, and autographs in the concrete), there is a large section of slab dedicated to Star Trek (it was added on December 5, 1991 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Star Trek).

Also, in addition to finding several places around the Los Angeles metropolitan area where "Back to the Future" was filmed, I paid a visit to Vasquez Rocks.

This location was also used in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and in the 2009 J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. It was used as a backdrop for the planet Vulcan in both films.

Lastly, here's a comparison of how it looks today, and how it looked 42 years ago...

Our thanks to Curtis for sharing his adventure with us!
