Antares 19

A wide variety of stories awaits readers of our latest issue. We've got a psychological drama-based sequel to "Shore Leave" by Nomad. Diane Doyle shows us a look at Chekov who finds he has more in common with Mister Spock that he presupposes. Jim Ausfahl has Kirk, Spock and McCoy encounter an alien lifeform with its own Prime Directive. Mary L. Barnes has McCoy and an old flame investigate a mystery on Beta Arae. Security Chief Chekov finds himself locked out of Security's squad room in a Diane Doyle story, and in two Nomad stories, we take a look at Chekov on the Reliant.

Another issue which primarily focuses on the first five-year mission of the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of James T. Kirk. Featured stories include Kirk's command ceremony, a pair of Chekov stories, three stories which complement several episodes and a look at contact with the Tholians. Also are a couple of post-TMP Chekov stories, along with a terrific story with Kirk on the shore-leave planet, and lastly a story about one of Sevrin's space hippies. A terrific issue, no doubt about it!

Orion Archives 2166-2170 Studying the Field

A novel by Jim Ausfahl. There are several things that are accepted without question in the Star Trek universe that the series never really explains: dilithium crystals, for instance, or trititanium, or the apparently limitless supply of antimatter that seems to power the 23rd century. Although Studying the Field is not primarily a story about explaining these things, the development of the plot line provides an explanation of that and more. The story itself is about the interaction of two childhood friends who find each other at graduate school, and the fruit of their friendship.
